REEDS IN THE WATER ~ T. HILES (COPYRIGHTED)

~ DEDICATED TO THE WORDS AND SPIRIT OF TORI AMOS~

Gentle melody, drifting
Calling me
Through time and space, the notes
sharp and sweet
sensual and bitter
angry and cruel
And my mind drifts into an
endless sway,
reeds in water,
the current driving my
thin, dancing form

The words, they pierce my senses,
soothe my heart,
cradle its battered form
I cannot turn away from them
And why would I try?
Why would I depart
from understanding shores
to a land of spiteful,
cold creatures of the
deep ocean?

She smoothes my hair back
from my aching brow
"Remember, and relive," she says
"And set the pain free."
My reluctant Persephone
My lips, intelligent entities
wrap around the sounds,
echoing them, chanting,
the powerful intensity within
stretching, growing,
wanting to be free
As I want to be free

Captivated, mesmerized,
my addiction in the dark
grows into a hopeful spark
And the earth, it quakes, shakes
with what humanity has done to her
withering form
My own heart beating in time
as the aftershocks subside
in my psyche
I let go, dissispate into a dew
that coats the dandelions
upon the hills
Sharing the peace that at last
resides within me
Sharing the solace that is Tori
